Is there a Perfect Match Type on Google Adwords… or is this just a Myth?
The difference between being a for profit vs. an unintentional non-profit company using Google Adwords can many times come down to your ability to setting up keywords properly.
But matching keywords in Google search is tricky, because people have unique ways of searching for items in which they want answers.
The good news is that Google Adwords has created various match types for advertisers to use. Match types are setting for keywords that help control how closely the keyword need to match a person’s search term in order to trigger your search result.
Below is a summary of the different types of keyword match types in Google Adwords:
For each keyword, you can assign a match type to determine how narrow or broad the user’s search term needs to be to trigger your ad in Adwords.
Simply put, the broader your keyword is, the greater reach you will have and the more often you will show up in the search engines. However, this frequency may not be a good thing if you have a niche product and keep getting shown in irrelevant search results.
Exact match, on the other hand, can allow you to specifically narrow your keyword to the exact relevance you desire… but then you may only be shown in a few result queries.

In summary, finding the best keyword match type in Google Adwords isn’t very simple… in fact, it’s quite complicated and requires some trial & error (or testing & verifying as we like to say it). But once you understand which to use, and how to incorporate negative keywords, you will be able to run highly relevant (and highly profitable) search campaigns on Google!
